United Kingdom researchers analyzing data on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease COPD say that doctors miss early opportunities to diagnose the disease up to 85 percent of the time. The earlier healthcare providers are able to diagnose the disorder, the better odds a patient has for avoiding damage to the lungs.The scientists analyzed the records of 38,859 patients who received a COPD diagnosis between 1990 and 2009 and who were at least 40 years old, according to Medical News Today. They published their findings in the journal The Lancet Respiratory Medicine.
