Book Review: Breathe Well and Live Well With COPD

Breathe Well and Live Well with COPD: A 28 Day Breathing Exercise Plan
Janet Brindley

People with COPD ( Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) often complain of breathlessness or an inability to control their breathing. The author explains the basics of what COPD is, and why breathing techniques are important in combination with standard medical care.

This book is full of very useful and simple and structured techniques that most people with COPD will find of benefit. It is easy to read and understand and has examples from people who have followed the plan, demonstrating the benefits they received. I like the use of the diaries at the end of each section of the better breathing plan, and also the use of self-checks and quizzes throughout the book which consolidate understanding and awareness of your breathing.

As a respiratory physiotherapist, I teach many of these techniques, and this book would be valuable for a lot of my patients.
